The fact that mountain biking is a big deal in Fruita, Colorado is certainly not a secret. Fruita is home to some of the best adventure experiences that can be had on two fat tires. Take away the fantastic rides, and what’s left? More adventure!

An excellent source for a variety of outdoor experiences is Rimrock Adventures, located just across the Colorado River from Fruita. Rimrock Adventures offer their visitors plenty of options, from guided horseback and rafting trips to kayak and paddleboard rentals.

The horseback trips leave from the stables and follow a system of trails that winds up into the sandstone canyons above, providing excellent views of the Grand Valley. Visitors can then leave the saddle and jump in the boats to cool off. Rimrock guides trips down the Colorado River to Loma, Horsethief Canyon Wildlife Area, and even down the Bureau of Land Management’s infamous Westwater Canyon, where the water can erupt into Class 4 and even Class 5 rapids.

After a long day on the water, those weary adventure seekers can relax at the Rimrock Rodeo, held right at Rimrock Adventures. The best event is the rodeo opener, Mutton Busting. In this event, children hold on for dear life as the sheep attempt to throw them to the ground in a similar fashion to bull or bronc riding.
