Whether you're looking for a smooth sailing 1 day float, or you want to get "Maytag'ed" for a couple days in Westwater Canyon, Fruita is a great place to begin your float. Remember, respect the River Gods and power of the water. Always wear a life jacket certified for white water use.
Ruby and Horsethief Canyons
On this tour you will float through 25 miles of towering red sandstone canyons; you will see huge boulders and Precambrian schist, and you will visit pictographs from the Fremont Indian culture.
Blue Heron Run
This 9-mile trip takes you through some spectacular scenery on the Colorado River and the Canada goose flyway and includes a series of small rapids. If it's hot, there is time for a refreshing swim in the river. The trip lasts three hours.
Wild and historic Westwater Canyon is considered to be the best one-day whitewater trip in the area. This 17-mile full-day trip through western Colorado and eastern Utah combines the serenity of the upper canyon with the heart-thumping Class III and IV rapids in the lower canyon. Permits are required for private trips.
